The
new decade has brought many changes to people's lifestyles which had an
inevitable impact on retailers. The rise of plus size models has also taken its
peak giving serious competition to longtime and largest retailer of lingerie in
the United States Victoria's Secret.
The
company founded by Roy and Gaye Raymond in 1977 and sold to Leslie Wexner in
1982 has decided to let go of their world famous angels whom they are now seen
as culturally irrelevant. For years, we have seen Super Models on campaigns and
annual Victoria's Secret Fashion modeling fantasy lingerie.
Moving
forward the brand has launched a campaign with
high-profile women known for their accomplishments rather than their figures.
According
to FOX News, Victoria's Secret Chief Executive Martin Waters said that the
brand hopes to become a global advocate for "female
empowerment".
"When the world was changing, we were too slow to
respond," said Waters. "We needed to stop being about what men want
and to be about what women want."
